If like me you downloaded Aion 2 + PURPLE dashboard to play the game only to be struck with the “Unable to connect to server. The client will now close” error message, you’ve come to the right place. This is how to fix the error and for those without the game, a step by step guide courtesy of Claude.ai (because I’m lazy af).

When will Aion 2 be released in Australia?

While there is no confirmed release date for the launch of Aion 2 in Australia / Oceana, the “global version” is set to release in 2026. Until then, us Aussies have to find our own way to play the game (with a slightly higher ping until Oceanic servers launch).

How to play Aion 2 in Australia For Free

So the good news is that if you are in Australia (or anywhere else for that matter) you can play Aion 2 for free using an app like ExitLag – they offer a 72 hour free trial of their app which is more than enough time to sink your teeth into the game and decide if the monthly fee is worth it.

In order to play Aion 2 in Australia at the present moment, you’ll need 3 things:

  • Aion 2 (downloaded from within the Purple Launcher)
  • ExitLag (Free Trial – No credit card required)

Note: Without ExitLag you wont be able to access the game.

Step 1: Create a New Gmail Account for Taiwan Registration

Step 1: Create a Dedicated Gmail Account

  1. Go to gmail.com and create a brand new Gmail account
  2. Use this account exclusively for Aion 2 Taiwan
  3. Do not use an existing Gmail account that’s linked to other regions
  4. No VPN is needed at any point in this process

Why a new account? NCSoft’s recent Purple launcher update merged regions, causing login conflicts if your email exists in multiple regions. A fresh Gmail avoids these issues.

Part 2: Register Your Taiwan NCSoft Account

Step 2: Register on Taiwan NCSoft Site

  1. Go to the Taiwan registration page: https://tw.ncsoft.com/aion2/preorder/record/preregister/index
  2. Click “Log In” in the top-right corner
  3. On the login screen, select “Google” as your login method
  4. If other Gmail accounts appear, choose “Use another account”
  5. Log in with your newly created Gmail account
  6. Google will ask permission to share your profile information – approve this
  7. Complete any profile setup prompts (some text may be in Chinese – this is normal)

Your Taiwan NCSoft account is now created and linked to your Gmail!

Part 3: Download and Install Purple Launcher

Step 3: Download Purple Launcher

  1. Visit the official Purple website: https://purple.plaync.com
  2. Click the download button (usually in the middle or top-right)
  3. Download the Purple launcher installer
  4. Run the installer and follow the standard installation process
  5. The launcher interface is in English, so no language changes are needed

Step 4: Log Into Purple Launcher

  1. Open the Purple launcher
  2. You’ll see “Global” as the default region – this is normal
    • NCSoft unified regions, so Taiwan no longer shows separately
  3. Click the Google login option
  4. Make sure you’re logged into your new Gmail account in your browser
  5. If Purple opens an incognito window, simply enter your Gmail credentials again
  6. Purple will validate your session and log you in automatically
  7. You may see some Chinese text and profile prompts – this confirms you’re on a Taiwan account
  8. Check “Remember login information” at the bottom to avoid repeating this process

Part 4: Install Aion 2

Step 5: Download Aion 2 Game Client

  1. Inside Purple launcher, locate the Aion 2 game icon
  2. Click on it to see game details
  3. Select the “Early Install” or “Setup” button
  4. Choose an installation folder (ensure you have enough space of 50GB+)
  5. Click to begin the download
  6. Purple will display the total download size and handle installation automatically
  7. This may take a while depending on your internet speed

Wait for the installation to complete before proceeding to the next section.

Part 5: Set Up ExitLag Free Trial (Bypass Client Error)

Without ExitLag you’ll see an error telling you it is unable to connect to the server. ExitLag routes your connection to bypass this and to reduce lag which is a blessing (dodging with lag is a nightmare).

Step 6: Create ExitLag Account

  1. Go to ExitLag
  2. Create a new account with your email
  3. No credit card required for the trial
  4. You’ll automatically receive a 3-day free trial for PC
  5. Check your email and click the confirmation link to activate your account

Step 7: Download and Install ExitLag

  1. After confirming your email, download the ExitLag client
  2. Install it like any standard application
  3. Launch ExitLag and log in with your account

Step 8: Configure ExitLag for Aion 2

  1. In the ExitLag application, use the search bar
  2. Type “Aion 2” or “AION 2 TW”
  3. Select Aion 2 from the results list
  4. Choose “Automatic Server Selection” (recommended)
    • ExitLag will automatically pick the best route
  5. If you prefer manual selection, choose a Taiwan (TW) node with the lowest ping
  6. Click the “Start” or “Boost” button to activate optimization

Keep ExitLag running in the background while playing.

Part 6: Launch and Play Aion 2

Step 9: Start the Game

  1. Ensure ExitLag is running with Aion 2 selected and boosted
  2. Open the Purple launcher
  3. Click on Aion 2
  4. Press the “Play” or “Launch” button
  5. The game will start – first launch may take a few minutes

Step 10: In-Game Setup

  1. The game interface will primarily be in Chinese/Traditional Chinese
  2. You can navigate menus by recognising icons and UI patterns (or use google translate on mobile).
  3. Create your character and start playing!
  4. Monitor your ping in-game – with ExitLag, you should see 100-180ms from Australia (vs 250-350ms without it)

After Free Trial:

  • ExitLag offers subscriptions if you want to continue playing
  • Look for promotional deals (they often offer 50% off sales and are currently running a Black Friday sale)

Also, if you’ve gotten this far and are in the game feel free to add me @ Bacon in the game on the Tsenka server 🙂

I’m Spiralling

Kidding! Sort of.

Welcome to my blog, a cozy corner of the internet dedicated to all the things I’ve been loving and is worth sharing.

Hop into one of my many posts – written right here in Melbourne – where I let you what’s worth exploring (or buying) to distract ourselves from the reality of living.

So, if you enjoy some unhinged reviews of self indulgent activities and life changing product reviews while watching the author spiral into the void, you’re in luck!
